Leoncraft 2

A second, much bigger take on a Minecraft-style game in the browser: worlds made the way the real game makes them, survival, the Nether and the End, shader levels from plain to cinematic, and online servers with accounts.

Leoncraft 2 is a new engine, not an update to the first Leoncraft. I wanted to see how close a browser game could get to the real thing, so the terrain follows Minecraft's own world generation: the same biome tables, caves, aquifers, ore veins and structures, built from the seed into chunks by a pool of web workers while you play.

Most of survival is in: crafting, mining, hunger, mobs, farming, redstone, enchanting and brewing, the Nether and the End with the dragon fight, advancements and statistics. The graphics have a Shaders button with five levels, from Off (lit the way the vanilla game lights its blocks) up to a full pipeline with soft shadows, volumetric clouds, water reflections and light shafts.

Multiplayer runs against a Node server on my own VPS. You make an account, then join or create servers; mobs, items, explosions and the dragon fight are shared between players, and server owners get the commands and settings a real server owner has. None of the game's art or sound comes from Mojang: the textures are openly licensed packs I audited and patched, and the sounds are CC0 recordings and my own synthesis.
